Christopher Dale Vogel

Born: August 1, 1963     Died: July 19, 1981

Jennings county had its fourth and fifth traffic casualties of the year Sunday afternoon a mile west of Hayden as two teenagers died apparently instantly when their car went off the wet blacktop during a heavy rain, struck a culvert and went over an embankment.

Dead are Christopher D. Vogel, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vogel, Route 6, North Vernon; and Judith E. Biehle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Biehle, Route 6, North Vernon.

According to authorities, the car, an older model Cadillac, was eastbound and went off the south side of the road hitting the abutment on the driver's side.

Vogel died of internal injuries.

Miss Biehle was thrown from the car by the impact and was pinned under the wreckage.

Vogel graduated this spring from Jennings County High School and the Biehle girl would have been a senior at JCHS this fall.

The accident was investigated by State Trooper Randall Renbarger, assisted by other state officers and Sheriff Larry Downs.   Also on hand at the scene was Gary Oursler, deputy coroner.

There will be joint services for the two.   Viewing will start at 2:00 Tuesday afternoon at the Diekhoff and Vance Funeral Home with the Rosary to be said at 7:30.

Joint services are to be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in North Vernon.   Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Miss Biehle was president of the FFA chapter at Jennings High and was in the Youth Ministry at St. Mary's.   Survivors include her parents, Ralph and Alberta Biehle; three brothers, Edward, Marvin and Thomas; and three sisters, Marie Baurle, Dorothy Bailey and Donna Biehle, all of Jennings.

Vogel farmed, and is survived by his parents, Charles and Beverly Vogel; three brothers, Michael, Greg and Scott; two sisters, Melissa Skirvin and Barbara Vogel; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Vogel and grandmother, Mary Wilkerson, all of Jennings.
