Daniel Reece Bishop

Born: about 1886     Died: November 21, 1944

Dan Bishop, age fifty-six, well known engineer on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, died early Tuesday morning at his home in North Vernon.   Although he had been in failing health for several months, he was not bedfast and had been downtown in North Vernon Sunday night.   Although he had not been able to work since September, his death was unexpected.

Mr. Bishop, who had been a faithful employee of the B. & O. for the past thirty-five years, spent his entire life in Hayden, Seymour and North Vernon.   He was married to Faye Daringer, who survives, and they lived in Seymour for a number of years prior to moving to North Vernon several years ago.

Mr. Bishop was a member of the First Baptist Church here and was a member of the Masonic lodge.   Many friends in this vicinity mourn his death.

Besides the widow, he is survived by three sons, all serving in the United States Navy outside the United States, and two daughters.   Twin sons, Dan and Don, are in the Naval Air Corps, one serving in Africa and the other in Panama.   The eldest son, Bobby, left the east coast several days ago.   The daughters are Mrs. Beatrice Hazelett, of Washington, District of Columbia, now living in North Vernon while her husband is serving with the United States Army in New Guinea, and Mrs. Virginia Elliott, of North Vernon.

Two brothers, Clyde Bishop, of Los Angeles and Bob Bishop, of Columbus; seven sisters, Mrs. Floyd McKinney and Mrs. Everett Gorbett, both of Seymour; Mrs. Helen King, of Columbus; Mrs. Guy Hickman, Mrs. Lulu Kettler, Mrs. Sally Roe, and Mrs. Gertrude Lazzell, all of Indianapolis and three grandchildren, Judy Hazelett, Jimmy Ledford and Bobby Elliott, also survive.

Funeral arrangements will be made later pending word from his sons in service.
