James A. Butcher

James A. Butcher, 81, of 1843 Ewing street, died at 2:25 a.m. today in the Jackson County Hospital following an illness of two years.

A native of Moultrie County, Illinois, he was born January 17, 1893 to the late John and Saville Thornberry Butcher.   He moved to Jackson County in 1922, and on June 1, 1952, he was married, in Seymour, to the former Hazel Nichter, who survives.

A retired railroad mechanic, Mr. Butcher was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the Rockford United Methodist Church.

Survivors in addition to the widow include two sisters, Mrs. Ann Lenwell and Mrs. Elva Jones, both of Terre Haute.   One brother and four sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from the Voss Chapel with the Reverend Gilbert Curry officiating.   Burial in Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Voss Mortuary after 1 p.m. Friday.
