Jason Carr, 32, of Commiskey received fatal internal injuries in the crash. He was flown by Dove Flight-PHI Air Medical helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital where he was pronounced dead by the Jefferson County (Kentucky) coroner at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Indiana State Police Trooper Derrick Simpson reports preliminary investigation revealed that Roland Bishop Jr., 20, of Commiskey was northbound on CR 275W in a 2003 Ford F150 pickup truck and Carr was southbound in a 1989 Ford Mustang approaching the Lovett Road. Bishop's pickup struck Carr's vehicle head-on completely in Carr's lane. The front end of the truck came to final rest on the Mustang's hood.
Bishop stated he had swerved left to avoid hitting a dog on the side of the road and did not see the car coming at him. Simpson confirmed there was a dog in the area around the time of the fatal crash. Investigation of the wreck is continuing.
Bishop was reported to have been wearing his seatbelt, Carr was not.
Simpson stated, "Mr. Carr received fatal internal injuries in the crash from the steering column of his car."
Agencies assisting at the scene included the Jennings County Sheriffs Department, Lovett Township Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue 20.
Carr's death is the fourth traffic fatality of 2009 in Jennings County.
