John Earl Baurley

Born: July 2, 1952     Died: February 6, 1976

A former Seymour man died in a one-car accident Friday afternoon when the car he was driving slammed into a tree west of Nashville.

Dead is John Earl Baurley, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W. Baurley, 602 South Chestnut Street.   Baurley had been living in Bloomington at 729 West Dixie Street.

He died of massive head injuries, according to the Brown County coroner

According to police, the victim was westbound on Indiana 46 at 2:52 p.m. seven miles west of Nashville when the accident occurred.   Police said for an as yet unknown reason, the victim lost control of his auto and it left the roadway on the right and struck a tree, killing him instantly.

The accident was investigated by personnel from the Bloomington post, Indiana state police and the Brown County sheriff's department.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday from St. Ambrose Catholic Church, of which Mr. Baurley was a member.   Burial in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, in Hayden.

A rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Voss Chapel.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Sunday at the Voss Mortuary.

Mr. Baurley attended Indiana University, Bloomington, for three years and was employed as the manager of Mr. Bass Pizza in Bloomington.

He was a 1970 graduate of Seymour High School, where he participated in football, wrestling and track.

He was born July 2, 1952 in Seymour, the son of Joseph W. Baurley and Lucille Crawford Baurley, who survive.

Other survivors include six sisters, Mrs. Michael (Cecile) Beavin, of Nashville; Mrs. George (Julie) Royster, of LaPorte; Mrs. Chris (Peggy) Funk, of Lafayette; Miss Lisa Baurley, of Indianapolis; Miss Teresa Baurley, of West Lafayette; and Miss Suzanne Baurley, of Seymour; three brothers, Fred J., of North Vernon; Dr. James Baurley, MD, Indianapolis; and Rick, of Seymour; and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Crawford, of Seymour.
