John F. Carr, 69, of Seymour died at 6:52 a.m. Monday, June 16, 1997, at his home after having been ill since February.
Mr. Carr was a retired carpenter and had served with the U.S. Navy as a supply sergeant for four years, the U.S. Air Force for eight years and the U.S. Army Reserve for three years. He also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2021, North Vernon.
Born February 21, 1928, in Austin, he was a son of Newell B. and Ella M. Mackey Carr. His father survives in Columbus. On June I, 1985, in Seymour, he married Muriel Huddleston, she survives.
Other survivors include five children, Alice F. Smith, Mississippi; Leo B. Carr, Seymour; John E. Carr, Scipio; Emma Zapfe, Dupont; and Matilda S. Carr, Campbellsburg; four brothers, Ben Carr and Max Carr, Jennings County; Eddie Carr, Seymour; and Harold Carr, Columbus; three sisters, Betty Engleking, Frankfort; Ella Pickron, Alabama; and Marilyn Terry, Seymour; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Carr; a son, Raymond Carr; a sister; and a brother.
The Reverend Larry Dalton will conduct services at 1 p.m. Thursday at Voss and Sons Funeral Service, Voss Chapel, Seymour, with burial to take place at Cana Cemetery in Jennings County. Full military graveside services will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89 and Disabled American Veterans Post 47, all of Seymour.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Memorial Hospital or donor's choice.
