Richard Allen "Rick" Baurley

Born: November 12, 1953     Died: April 21, 1976

Richard Allen "Rick" Baurley, 22, 626 South Broadway, was found dead about 8:30 p.m. Thursday on the George Darlage Farm, 2.8 miles northeast of Seymour.

Keith Burkholder, Jackson County coroner, ruled today that death occurred late Wednesday and was due to internal hemorrhage of the chest following a self-inflicted shotgun wound.

The body was discovered by Mr. Baurley's brother who was searching for the youth when he did not show up at a scheduled gathering.   Mr. Baurley had previously lived in the house on the Darlage farm, which is located one mile east of County Road 1200 East and .2 mile north of County Road 800N.

Investigation of the shooting was made by Trooper Charles E. Conrad, Sr. and Coroner Burkholder.

A lifelong local resident, Mr. Baurley was a painting contractor and member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church.

Born November 12, 1953, in Seymour, he was the son of Joseph W. and Lucille Crawford Baurley.

In addition to the parents, he is survived by two brothers, Fred J., of North Vernon, and Dr. James Baurley, of Indianapolis; six sisters, Mrs. Michael (Cecile) Beavin, of Nashville; Mrs. George (Julie) Royster, of LaPorte; Mrs. Chris (Peggy) Funk, of Lafayette; Miss Lisa Baurley, of Indianapolis; Miss Teresa Baurley, of West Lafayette; and Miss Suzanne Baurley, of Seymour; and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Crawford, of Seymour.

One brother preceded him in death.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday from St. Ambrose Catholic Church with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery at Four Corners.

Friends may call at the Voss Mortuary after 5 p.m. today. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. tonight in the Voss Chapel.
