A resident of Jackson County most of his life, Mr. Schlatterer had worked at Gerwin Shoe Factory and retired from Cummins Engine Company. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He served in the Army and was active in community efforts, including enforcing disaster warning sirens.
Funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with the Reverend Joseph Sheets officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with rosary service at 7 p.m., and from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Voss and Sons Funeral Service. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, with graveside rites conducted by members of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Vietnam Veterans.
Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic School or St. Jude’s Hospital.
Born August 9, 1909, in Frieburg, Germany, Mr. Schlatterer was the son of Karl F. and Maria Galser Schlatterer. He married Frances Catherine Haag September 17, 1949, in Indianapolis. She died February 4, 1983.
Survivors include daughters, Elizabeth A. and Jane Schlatterer and Mary Kidwell, all of Seymour, and Teresa Schaefer of Sheridan; a son, David J. Schlatterer of Seymour; a brother, Jacob J. Schlatterer of Seymour; and grandchildren, Melinda, Ann, Frances and Christopher Kidwell, Zachary Schlatterer and Marcellus and Patrick Schaefer.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Schlatterer; and brothers, Karl J., Fritz B., Stephen and Emil Schlatterer.
