Sylvester Joseph Vogel

Born: August 20, 1910     Died: November 28, 1989

Sylvester J. Vogel, 79, of North Vernon R6 died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson County Hospital.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Four Corners.   He retired from Agrico Chemical.   He was a former farmer and worked for the Indiana Department of Highways.

Mr. Vogel was born August 20, 1910, in Jennings County to Peter and Elizabeth Ackerman Vogel.   He was a life-long resident of Jennings County.

He married Irene Elsner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in November 1935.   She died November 26, 1957.   He married Edith M. Hauersperger Carr on July 23, 1959.   She survives.

Others surviving are 15 children, Mrs. Elmer (Anna Mae) Raver of Oldenburg, David Carr of Tempe, Arizona, Mrs. Jerry (Elizabeth) Bridges of North Vernon R4, Mrs. Dale (Coleen) Gerth of Seymour, Mrs. Richard (Jeanette) Heckman of Columbus, Robert Vogel of Commiskey, Mrs. Mark (Maria) Tempest of Pekin, Mrs. Donald (Marie) Laymon of Lexington, Leonard Vogel of Dupont and Charles Vogel, Mrs. William (Kathlene) Baurley, Thomas Vogel, Mrs. Gilbert (Joyce) Vogel, Paul Vogel and Henry Carr, all of North Vernon R6.

Also surviving are a brother, Albert Vogel of North Vernon R6; two sisters, Florence Brewer of Seymour and Sister Mary Grace of Ferdinand; 57 grand-children and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Vogel was preceded in death by two grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters.

The Reverend James Arneson will conduct services at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.   Burial will follow at the church cemetery.   The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Voss Chapel in Seymour.

Friends may call at Voss and Sons in Seymour after 3 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday.   Memorials may be made to a mass or the Heart Fund.
