Named after me?   I doubt it !!!

Born August 27, 1941 near Four Corners, Indiana.   Four Corners is a small community located two miles south of Hayden in Jennings County.

Except for five years from February, 1986 to February, 1991, I have spent my entire life in the Four Corners area until I moved to Greensburg, Indiana to be much closer to my job at Wal-Mart (saved 45 minutes of driving each way).

My father was Henry Charles Carr (he died September 11, 1953).   My mother was Edith Marie Hauersperger (she died November 21, 1999 at the age of 84).   Following my father's death, my mother married Sylvester Joseph Vogel.   My father and mother had five children (2 boys and 3 girls).   My new dad had 10 children (5 boys and 5 girls), from his marriage to Irene Frances Elsner, when he married my mother in 1959 (what a graduation present, 10 new brothers and sisters).   He died November 28, 1989.

I have never been married except to bowling, softball, genealogy and my job.

After several short term jobs, I went to work for Arvin Industries in Columbus, Indiana (and the five years in Phoenix) in 1964.   They sold the division I was working for in Phoenix in 1991 and terminated my position as Applications Supervisor (of computer programming).   They have since closed down the entire department using a consulting firm for the data processing.

Since then, I have worked for Radio Shack (part time); Jennings County Highway Department (as Office Manager) until politics changed (I rode into town on a donkey and they were on elephants - it didn't mix well).   After a few months off and working on my family genealogy and taking life easy, I went to work for the Eddie Bauer outlet store in Edinburg, Indiana as Stock Lead.   In mid-November 1998 I transferred from stock lead to sales to get into their management training program.   I enjoyed working out front and meeting many wonderful customers.   I left their employment as of March 26, 1999 as they promoted around me (I was probably too old).   I worked for a temporary agency in Seymour for three months.   I was placed with a company called Burnham as receiving auditor.   Poor management and lack of leadership caused me to leave there also.   On June 19, 1999, I went to work for Wal-Mart in Greensburg, Indiana as Support Manager in their Tire & Lube Express department.   In early July, 2000 I transfered to the Division 1 area (the rest of the store to work the customer service area, customer service manager, and assorted other duties.   After working third shift stocking (mostly stationery), I moved to days in January, 2004 preparing for retirement.   I worked part time until I left permanently on December 21, 2004.

I started bowling in 1961 and bowled (as many as five leagues some seasons) until 1996 when arthritis, a bad back, and my mother's illness forced me to quit.   I am a Life Member and a Hall of Fame Member of the Seymour Bowling Association.   I was past president and a board member for many years.   I was elected to the Indiana Bowling Association until I had to resign when I moved to Phoenix.   I was elected a second time to the state board following my return home and served until I quit bowling and had to resign a second time.

I was very active in local (Jennings County area - mostly church league) softball programs and managed a local ball park while playing and managing.   Also, I was an A.S.A umpire.

I have been a precinct committeeman and very active in my party's politics until my move out of the county in April, 2000.   I even ran for county coroner in 1992 - unsuccessfully though.

A lifetime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Four Corners, I was Eucharistic Minister and Lecter.   I am Past Grand Knight of the North Vernon Knights of Columbus.   I transfered my membership to Four Corners when they started a council of their own and served for a couple of years as Financial Secretary.

On April 1, 2005, I left my apartment in Greensburg, Indiana and went to full-time RVing.   I bought a 1977 Reallite Class C motorhome and am enjoying doing whatever I feel like at the time.   I have been to Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas so far.   If I find a spot I like, or money runs short, I spend time there until able or want to continue my trip.

The poor old '77 RV had a rough trip through Texas and points in betweet and collapsed when I got back to Indiana.   I was working as a camp host at Muscatatuck Park in Vernon, Indiana and had it parked in the camp host site.   The fellow whose daughter sold me the '77 came to the park to spend a few days with a new RV and ended up selling me is old '88.   So, I ended up with a 32' instead of a 23'.   I ended up making another trip to Texas (for 1 1/2 years) and came back through Mississippi and up the Natchez Trace Parkway working back to Indiana.   I was camp host for 3 months at Muscatatuck Park again before buying my house.   To help make ends meet, I went to work part time at a local grocery store for about a year.
